In My Own Gaze: Memoir of an Invisible Black Woman, I confront the topic of invisibility as a Black woman. I examine my process of managing internal and external conflict, and how I learned to see myself, despite feeling unseen in various areas of my life. Inspired by bell hooks, who addressed the importance of women offering their own gaze of approval and validation to themselves. My hope is that this memoir will be a leading narrative on a topic that is often dismissed and rarely discussed, even among Black women.
